Ice Fishing with Silman and Polgar

Well, Reassembler mentioned about a Total Chess Immersion Unit for Christmas my solution is rather low tech and most likely seasonal. First, you have to wait for the local lake to freeze. Then you haul your bait, auger, tip-it traps and stuff out on the ice. Drill a few holes manually, because the aerobics are good for you and then you pop open one of these things to shelter you from the elements and read a good chess book:

I caught absolutely no fish but enjoyed the solitude. The vibration table and sound system was not installed. I made it through a few chapters of Silman’s Endgame course and quite a few problems of Polgar’s Brick. Without any other distractions, this was the most productive training session on ice.

Wow, that is quite a statement about a lack of "me" time when you have to go to such extreme measures. Although seeing that I live in AZ, well lets just say I'm going to be waiting a long time for a lake to freeze over. Any desert equivalents that you can think of?

That is hardcore :P

I'll have to make a camping trip for this express purpose, never mind that I haven't been camping in ~20 years...

I have created a special, extra-robust and warm kind of structure to shelter me from the elements - I call it a "house" and I don't leave it during the winter months.

Wang, I'm sure you can drag that sled out to the desert. It's got a comfy seat inside... it'll still protect you from the elements though briefly, as I'm sure it would get a bit stifling after a while. There are windows.

Derek, you may have the year round thing... but I'll bet your wife can still find you ;)

How disappointing. Based on the post title, I thought you managed to convince Silman and one of the Polgars to go ice fishing with you.

Awesome. I lived on Lake Attitash in Amesbury MA for a few years as a kid. Every year a couple of people would knock on our door at like 7am asking if they could call a tow truck because their truck broke through the ice, as they drove on the lake to go ice fishing. That sounds like a lot of fun!

just don't expect to catch more in the desert.

I've been thinking of picking up Silman's endgame course too...

Cheers!
