Blunderprone Presents: Have a heart for Chess!

It might save a life.

Sunday, August 30, 2009

In conjunction with the Boylston Chess Club, Blunderprone wishes you to join IM David Vigorito for a brief lecture with a Q&A followed by a Simultaneous Exhibition starting at 1PM at the Boylston Chess club (BCC). The proceeds will go to help the American Heart association.

Here’s Why:

Unfortunately, too many of us have a loved one affected by heart disease or stroke. To help stop this, George Duval ( aka Blunderprone) along with others in the chess community will be participating in this year's Start! Heart Walk on September 12, 2009 benefiting the American Heart Association. You can help raise funds and protect those you love by participating in something fun and chess related.

Fee: $20 for both BCC and Non-BCC members, remember this is a fundraiser. Make checks payable to American Heart Association.

Your contribution will make a difference in the fight against our nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers: heart disease and stroke.

Where: Boylston Chess Club; 240 Elm St., Suite B9; Somerville, Massachusetts 02144
(617) 629-3933 SUNDAY FREE PARKING !
When: Sunday August 30, 2009 at 1PM
Registration: 12:00 – 12: 45.

“Blunderprone” promises to make this a fun event for all levels of expertise as he guarantees no one will lose any USCF rating points.
Bonus: You might actually be saving someone’s life.

If you can’t attend but wish to make a donation to the AHA’s heart walk, follow this link through George’s Blog at http://blunderprone.blogspot.com ( click on the thermometer on the right)

Hi Ray,
It's Jim DuBois from Maine, I met you once at a tournament in Mass. We talked about your dad, Maine chess, etc. Anyway, if you can share this - THANKS!!!

I am playing in the upcoming World Open chess tournament (under 1800 section) held at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel located at 201 North 17th Street, Philadelphia - this is the event site which I already have the room reserved (2 double beds in a nonsmoking room), checking in July 3rd at 3:00 pm and checking out July 9th by noon. The room rate is the chess rate of: $99.00 plus the following taxes: sales 6.0 %, occupancy 8.2 %, and city 1.0%. The grand total per night: $115.00 or $350.00 each.

Looking for someone over 21 and a nonsmoker to split this 50/50 - no exceptions on these two points and I’m not looking for anything less or more than a 6 day schedule player to share the expense. If you withdraw from the event, sorry there’s no refund. If you want to invite another person to room with us or like to party this will not work as well - very firm on this since I’m pretty quiet and need rest, but not a stick in the mud either.

I will meet you July 3rd in the hotel lobby and we will check in by 3:00. Your share of $350.00 in cash (only) is due at that point; of course you will have your own room key.

Please include your mobile number for us to have a brief conversation. I will make a choice fairly quickly and respond via email and I will also seek an alternate in case the first person bails out before the 3rd, in which case I’ll let the alternate know immediately by phone and email. Again, 21 or older and nonsmoking, paying with cash - thanks and good chess!

This is strictly platonic to find a roommate - certainly not looking for a hookup or NSA anything - other than sharing chess expenses. Email me at mrjedubois@gmail.com.
