My nemesis and I were paired again last night at the club. In the end I lost to a nice tactical rook sac and queen offering because I NEGLECTED MY BACK RANK.
On the bright side, Rolf Wetzell was at the club. I will take the book that I own in next week to have him sign it! Take that BDK!

When I was at the Eastern Class Champs last month, the father of a 13 year old boy from our club, who was playing in the U900 Section, spotted your “Cindy Lou” playing late into the night in Round 3.
He asked me “Is she playing a real game!?” Since few of the games in the section his son was playing in last more than an hour, he was quite astonished to see young kids in the higher sections concentrating on the same game for 3 – 4 hours.
After the tournament I looked her up and found that she’s the 16th highest rated ten year old in the country, and the highest rated one in all of New England. When I told the dad that at our next weekly club meeting, he said “I can see that you’re impressed.”
Whenever I watched "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas", it was bitter disappointment at the end when the Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day.
Better luck next time.
BP, tell Rolf he has another big fan out in Reno. I just left a (hopefully ) humorous comment over at BDK's blog about him.
I'm really glad I didn't know anybody knew Rolf, as my review would have been quite biased and I would have pulled punches. I'm sure he is very nice, very good at chess, and I admire his achievement. But I just didn't like his book.
Then again, I hear flash cards are making a comeback!
BDK--we mainly value your awesome book reviews for their frankness (well, and brevity too!) so I'm glad you pulled no punches.
I guess guys have the female version of my King Kong that they have to deal with.
